Gene Winfield

American car builder legend Gene Winfield, 91 "young" years of age, has for the 3d time been participating in the largest yearly Car Show & Event in Finland, named "Autot ja Viihde" and "Lahden Jenkkiautonäyttely" - this time during the weekend 29-30th of September 2018. During this event, Gene unfortunately stumbled and fell, and was rushed to a hospital, where the doctors found a hip fracture that required surgery. The surgery was performed on Monday, October 1st, and the surgery went well. However, shortly after surgery, Gene got pneumonia, which was treated with antibiotic therapy. The pharmacotherapy and recovery from hip surgery have proceeded according to expectations, taking into account Mr Gene's high age and any other illnesses. However, there is a long recovery process ahead, and at this moment we are proceeding "one day at a time"
The organizers of the car event (Kirsi and Mikael), have taken care of the illness and symptomatic medical care he has received in Finland by being in daily co-operation with the hospital staff and the physicians who are treating Gene. The treatment provided for Winfield has been of prime quality in Finland and Gene has already charmed the whole staff at the local hospital, and multiple signatures have already been signed.
The organizers have been in constant contact with Gene's relatives in the United States, while making sure that his business is working as much as possible uninterruptedly. Ever since the event, the organizers have been with him every day for several hours until the early hours of the evening so that, due to the time difference, communication with people in California has been able to flow smoothly. The organizers have been able to arrange special arrangements in the hospital and thus spend more time than normally allocated for visits. The organizers are a little bit behind with the show's post-production, but at this point, priority has been on Gene's issues, and as soon as the situation is starting to stabilize further, further post-production work from the show will continue.
Gene's girlfriend Laura is still in Finland and the organizers have done their best to take care of her as well and accommodate her in their home. His team in California, along with us all here in Finland, is taking his affairs forward.

We are about to initiate rehabilitation activities soon and at the same time evaluated the different options for Gene's safe return to his home country, which will occur as soon as it becomes realistic. Doctors have advised to arrange an ambulance flight for him, which will be very expensive. We have requested several offers for this purpose and on average this type of flight costs 150,000 € (about 170,000USD). Treatment in Finland is also very expensive for a patient from a foreign country. In order to be able to cover for these costs, a fundraising has been set up for him, which can be found online at the address below. As one can see from the ongoing fundraising, Gene truly has tremendous friends and fans all over the world, and at this moment we are sincerely hoping that the collection would rise to the goal. However, this still means active contact with people and we hope that as many as possible would be able to participate in this collection.

Gene monitors on a daily basis the progress of the collection and the many fantastic and encouraging messages he receives from people from all over the world - something that has given Gene much extra strength and speeding his recovery. He is EXTREMELY THANKFUL and moved to tears from this attention and help and progression of this charity collection.
Our aim is to rehabilitate Gene enough in order for him to be able to fly safely without risks. Gene has a huge desire to get back to the car building, so we have to persuade him continuously to have patience. At the same time, he is extremely sorry that he is not able to attend his own event this coming Saturday, October 13th . Our intention is to create a live broadcast from the hospital, so that the people at the event in California will be able to see and hear Gene on a live link. Autot ja Viihde -viikonlopun ja Lahden Jenkkiautonäyttelyssä Lahdessa 29.-30.9.2018 vieraana ollut yhdysvaltalainen 91-vuotias custom Legeda Gene Winfield kaatui tapahtumassa, jonka seurauksena hänet toimitettiin sairaalahoitoon, jossa hänellä todettiin leikkausta vaativa lonkkamurtuma. Leikkaus tehtiin maanantaina 1.10. ja leikkaus sujui hyvin. Pian leikkauksen jälkeen Genelle nousi keuhkokuume, jota alettiin hoitaa antibiottikuurilla. Lääkehoito sekä lonkkaleikkauksesta toipuminen ovat sujuneet odotusten mukaisesti ottaen huomion MR Winfieldin korkean iän, sekä mahdolliset muut sairaudet. Edessä on kuitenkin pitkä toipuminen ja tällä hetkellä etenemme asian kanssa ns. päivä kerrallaan.
Me (Kirsi ja Mikael) olemme huolehtineet hänen saamastaan asianmukaisesta sairaanhoidosta Suomessa olemalla päivittäisessä yhteistyössä sairaalahenkilökunnan ja häntä hoitaneiden lääkäreiden kanssa. Winfieldin saama hoito Suomessa on ollut ensiluokkaista ja hän on jo hurmannut häntä hoitavan sairaalahenkilökunnan. Nimikirjoituksiakin on jo jaettu.
Olemme olleet jatkuvassa yhteydessä hänen omaisiinsa Yhdysvalloissa ja samalla pitäneet huolta siitä, että hänen liiketoimintansa toimii keskeytyksettä. Tapahtumasta saakka, olemme olleet päivittäin hänen luonaan ja viettäneet aikaa useita tunteja aina iltamyöhään saakka, jotta aikaerosta johtuen, kommunikointi Californiaan on voinut sujua tiiviisti. Olemme voineet tässä tehdä erityisjärjestelyitä sairaalassa, ja siten viettää hänen luonaan aikaa enemmän kuin normaali vierailuaika sallisi. Olemme hieman jälkijunassa näyttelyn jälkitöiden kanssa, mutta tällä hetkellä priorisointi on ollut Genen asioissa ja nyt kun tilanne alkaa stabilisoitumaan, jatkamme näyttelyä koskevia jälkitöitä pian.
Laura, hänen tyttöystävänsä on myös edelleen Suomessa ja olemme pitäneet myös hänestä huolta ja majoittaneet hänet kotiimme. Yhdessä me kaikki täällä Suomessa ja hänen tiiminsä Californiassa, viemme hänen asioitaan eteenpäin.

Keräykseen voi osallistua millä summalla tahansa ja kaikki apu on tarpeen, sillä vakuutus ei tule kattamaan tämän kaltaista erityislentoa. Kuten keräyksen voimasta näkee, on hänellä valtavasti ystäviä ja faneja ympäri maailmaa ja tällä hetkellä vauhti näyttää siltä, että keräys pääsee tavoitteeseen. Tämä tarkoittaa kuitenkin edelleen aktiivista kontaktointia ihmisiin sekä mahdollisimman monen häntä auttavan. Gene seuraa päivittäin keräyksen etenemistä sekä hänelle eri tavoin tulevia lukuisia viestejä, joita hänelle toimitamme eri tavoin. Hän on ollut erittäin kiitollinen sekä liikuttunut kyyneliin saakka tästä huomiosta, avusta ja keräyksen etenemisestä.
Tilanne elää tällä hetkellä vielä päivittäin ja tarkoituksenamme on kuntouttaa Gene siihen kuntoon, että hän voi lentää turvallisesti ilman riskiä, jota tehty iso leikkaus ja muut terveydelliset asiat tällä hetkellä ovat varjostamassa. Genellä on erittäin iso halu päästä takaisin autonrakentelun pariin, joten joudumme häntä hieman jarruttelemaan lentoonlähdön kanssa. Samalla hän on erittäin pahoillaan siitä, että ei voi osallistua omaan tapahtumaansa nyt lauantaina. Tarkoituksenamme on tehdä livelähetys sairaalasta, ja ottaa yhteys Californiaan, jotta hänen tapahtumassa vierailevat voivat nähdä Genen ja vaihtaa kuulumisia hänen kanssaan.
